The krypton arc lamps are used as the pumping light source for the Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) solid state lasers. Their luminescent spectrum matches the absorption band of the Nd-YAG crystals.

This high pressure krypton arc lamp was made by ILC Technology before they became part of Perkin Elmer Optoelectronics. This is ILC part number L-1448 and has the same specifications as the Perkin Elmer QCW series.
