RCA released the type 913 CRT in 1936. To a casual observer, the metal-jacketed 913 resembled RCA’s newly introduced 6L6 beam-power tube, but instead of a domed metal top, the 913 sported a 1-inch diameter viewing screen coated with a green phosphor. It was a low cost alternative to the more expensive, larger CRT's and was meant for the amateur and experimenter market.
