NARVA SKR 2 Maltese Cross Crookes Tube
Tube de Crookes à croix de Malte
Schattenkreuzröhre
The Maltese Cross tube was invented in the 1880s by William Crookes during his investigations
unto the nature of cathode rays (electrons).
When a high voltage is applied to the electrodes, the end of the tube fluoresces, but the cross positioned in the
cathode ray beam produces a shadow. This indicates that cathode rays travel in straight lines and that they are
stopped by a thin piece of metal.
