The ISSh-7A is designed to produce multiple light pulses of high strength and very short duration. It was used in ceilometers (instruments that use a light source to determine the height of a cloud ceiling or cloud base).

Anode voltage: from 800 V to 1100 V; nominal 1 kV.
Trigger voltage: from 1500 V to 3000 V.
Average light intensity: from 1 cd to 2 cd.
Amplitude light intensity: from 6,500 cd to 14,000 cd.
Flash duration at the level of 0.35 amplitude: from 0.25 μs to 0.5 μs.
Pulse repetition frequency:
- in mode A: from 500 Hz to 700 Hz.
- in mode B: from 1500 Hz to 2000 Hz.
Continuous operation: not less than 2 hours.
