Plücker-Röhre
Plücker tube
Tube de Plücker

So named after Julius Plücker, a German physicist. He was the first to use the vacuum tube with the capillary part now called a Geissler tube, by means of which the luminous intensity of feeble electric discharges was raised sufficiently to allow of spectroscopic investigation.

Special feature: the electrodes do not lead into the inside of the tube; the thickened ends are coated with a thin copper layer.
