Spectra Physics Model 073A Argon Ion Laser Tube
Laser à ion Argon
Argon-Ionen-Laserröhre
This Spectra Physics tube comes from a Model 162-03 laser head. It was probably used in
telecommunications over fiber; it dates from the 80's.
If you look inside the glass bulb, you will see a large filament, it was heated with a voltage of
2.5 to 3 volts; on the other side of the tube (where the red wire was connected) a high tension of
a hundred volts at 6 to 10 amps was applied (these tubes work just like the movie HMI lamps). There
was also a high voltage ignition electrode which serves to trigger the arc. The current density in
the middle of the tube is very important, and also the heat dissipation.
Thanks to Michel Masset who donated this tube.
