Raytheon QKL1631-A3 Master Oscillator CWICWI = Continuous Wave Illumination. This tube was a spare part for the F911 Westdiep frigate of the Belgian Navy. Many thanks to Danial Stocks for the following information: “This is one of the lowest noise oscillator klystrons ever made. The big cylinder is a temperature compensated high-Q cavity used to reduce the noise from the klystron output. It is about 0.5 - 1 W output and runs at about 4 kV. This generates a low noise signal that is amplified by another high power klystron used as illuminator for an anti-aircraft missile. The missile tracks the reflection of the illuminator signal from the aircraft. The noise must be as low as possible, as this is the limit to what the missile can track.
