The first couple stages are built like a standard PMT, followed by high gain amplification stages built similar to the high speed micro PMT's used with Scionix spectroscopy detectors. This tube was probably intended for an especially demanding isotope analysis and spectroscopy application. It comes from Sandia Labs surplus.
