Annulus tubes were used in the 1950s for analyzing gas samples as well as liquid samples.
They consist of a central thin-walled glass GM tube surrounded by an outer glass jacket.
The liquid to be analyzed is fed into the lower of the two openings on the jacket.
The sample may remain stationary in the annulus or it can flow continuously during the count.
