Il s'agit d'un prototype ou d'une variante du tube U.C.16 qui a été utilisé en 1935 pour la détection des obstacles sur le paquebot Normandie. La tige verticale dans l'ampoule forme antenne. Comme la puissance du tube n'est que de quelques dixièmes de watts, la concentration du faisceau émetteur était obtenue en montant le tube au foyer d'un miroir réflecteur parabolique.

It is a prototype or a variant of the U.C.16 tube which was used in 1935 for the detection of obstacles on the SS Liner Normandie. The vertical rod in the bulb forms an antenna. As the power of the tube is only a few tenths of a watt, the concentration of the emitting beam was obtained by mounting the tube at the focus of a parabolic reflecting mirror.
