The tube's unusual segment arrangement allows the LD8113 to generate both numbers and a range of extra characters, including a ‘+’ symbol and a more naturally shaped number ‘4’.

The LD8113 is in fact an 8-segment tube, because the four horizontal and vertical segments in the center of the display are ganged together.

Digit height is 14 mm.
