ISE Electronics Corporation (Japan) started in 1966, and the company name was changed to Noritake-Itron Corporation in 2002. The first Vacuum Fluorescent Display was patented in 1972.
The DG12B, the first mass-produced VFD, was installed in Sharp's CS-16A, the world's first MOS-IC calculator. The DG12B was also used in the Burroughs C3260, the Burroughs version of Sharp's EL-160. At the time (early 1971), Burroughs sold Sharp-designed calculators with slight cosmetic and packaging changes.
