The Model 166-12 was developed by Dr. Helmut Gelling, born in 1911, who joined Precisa in 1959 and became chief designer in 1960.

This very user-friendly machine features an automatic 13-digit return function, automatic carry-back, multiple multiplication (positive and negative), and a constant factor or dividend (11 digits); it can print quotients (11 digits), remainders, and other functions. It ccan also store values and perform squaring operations.

Over 177,700 units of the Model 166 were built between 1966 and 1976.
