Pinwheel calculator invented in Russia in 1873 by W. T. Odhner, a Swedish immigrant.
Its industrial production officially started in 1890 in Odhner's Saint Petersburg workshop. Towards the end of 1917,
the Odhner family went back to Sweden and restarted the manufacturing of their calculator under the Original-Odhner name.

The disc B, whose rotation is driven by the operating finger D, carries the ramp C. The ramp's position
determines whether the teeth on the left (numbered 1 to 9) are extended or retracted; in the figure, only the first 5 teeth are
extended. The two teeth that appear on the right side of the disc's periphery are used for carrying in addition and subtraction,
respectively. The mechanism is adjusted so that the number of extended teeth corresponds to the signal given by the operating
finger outside the machine.

Le disque B, dont la rotation est entraînée par le doigt de manoeuvre D porte la rampe C dont la position
détermine la saillie ou la rentrée des dents situées à gauche (numérotées de 1 à 9); sur la figure, les 5 premières dents sont
seules sorties. Les deux dents qui apparaissent sur la périphérie du disque, sur la droite, sont respectivement destinées au report
dans l'addition et dans la soustraction. Le mécanisme est réglé de façon que le nombre de dents sorties corresponde à l'indication
donnée par le doigt de manoeuvre à l'extérieur de la machine.
