Pixicon 700FA-527 2-inch Camera Tube
Tube de prise de vue
Bildaufnahmeröhre

This tube was used in the PIXICAM low-cost closed-circuit TV camera, produced in the early 1960s by American Telecircuits Div., Marsan Industries, Inc., 49 Edison Place, Newark, N.J.

The Pixicon is an electrostatic deflection and focus, image pickup tube of the vidicon type. However, it uses no mesh nor wall screen, and the bulb is made of G-12 glass with a LIME glass face plate with an indium pressure seal. The absence of the mesh practically eliminates beam flutter, a common problem with most electrostatic vidicon tubes of the time. The actual resolution of the tube has been measured in a high definition system as 650 lines at the center and 350 lines at the corner; in the PIXICAM camera, it was limited by the video band pass to 400 lines.

Special thanks to Ira Cone for identifying this tube.

The tube bears a label which says:

700 FA-527 XED-023
1051/10
700FA = 527
#XED-023
