Indicating Neon Lamp for wavemeter 10E/7474
Lampe au néon pour ondemètre
Neon Lampe für Wellenmesser

These lamps were used in early (late 1920’s – 1930’s) absorption wavemeters. Basically, and absorption wavemeter is a simple device consisting of a tunable resonant circuit with an indicator. When the device is tuned to the frequency of that being tested, maximum absorption takes place. This means that the device's innards are tuned to the same frequency. The induced energy circulating between the coil and the capacitor of the LC (inductor-capacitor) circuit is then sufficient to light a small neon bulb. At any other frequency, either the coil or the capacitor will absorb the energy and the bulb will stay dark.
