Developed in the early 1980s, the low wattage XL induction lamp has never been commercialized, when it became clear that compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) would be more cost effective.

Conductive silver rings on the outside of the bulb to reduce magnetic fields,
in order to keep electromagnetic interference under control,
