GE 50/100/150W 120V A21 Soft White 3 Way Bulb
Lampe à trois intensités
Glühlampe drei verschiedene Leistungsstufen in Einer
A 3-way lamp, also known as a “tri-light” or “Three-Lite” lamp, has two filaments designed to produce different amounts of light. Such lamps require a 3-way bulb and socket, and a 3-way switch. The two filaments can be activated separately or together, giving three different amounts of light. Unlike an incandescent lamp controlled by a dimmer, each of the filaments operates at full voltage, so the color of the light does not change between the three steps of light available.
3-way lamps were developped in the United States in 1933, and many hundreds of thousands have been sold since then. They were only made for operation on 115-125 volt circuits. Philips in Holland and GEC in England brought out a 230/240 volt version in the mid 1960’s. The lamps enjoyed a reasonable success on the European market.
