An M-type carcinotron, or M-type backward wave oscillator, is a voltage-controlled non-resonant extrapolation of magnetron interaction. It is tunable over a wide range of frequencies by varying the accelerating voltage.

It seems likely that the CV6124 found use in a British L-Band jammer.
