This unusual photomultiplier has a long and narrow (“slotted”) photocathode located on the side surface of the cylinder, and this structure is associated with the specific application of the device. It is used in scintillation detectors of charged particles, in combination with a long lamellar crystal of NaI (Sodium iodide) which, when absorbed by a charged particle, produces a flash of light. The photocathode is 150 mm long.
