These photomultipliers are intended for large area detectors, like Water Cherenkov detectors.
Originally, these tubes were designed by Photonis for the surface detectors of the Pierre Auger Observatory. The Chinese production (HZC Photonics) tubes are being built for the Juno Neutrino Detector.
