Philips TUV 200-240V 6W-E Germicidal Lamp
              Lampe germicide
              Entkeimungslampe
The TUV 6W is a self-ballasted discharge tube made by Philips in the early 1950s.
This lamp integrates an ignition rod in the form of a graphite-coated glass tube which enables a reliable discharge ignition at 220 V mains voltage with cold electrodes. A high-impedance resistor connects this rod to the bottom electrode for maximum effectiveness, while a second resistor with a lower impedance and located in the end cap limits the lamp current to 27 mA in the steady state-regime.
The lamp is built with a glass material having a very low iron content for the transmission of mercury’s shortwave radiations, especially at 253.7 nm.
With such a design and construction, Philips offered a compact and easy-to-use source of UV-C light for general disinfection and sterilization purposes. Later, the lamp became also useful for resetting EPROM devices.
