For measuring pressures in the range 0.001 to 0.2 mm Hg.

The pressure is indicated by measuring the voltage of a thermocouple spot-welded to a heated filament exposed to the gas. The filament, fed from a constant current supply, reaches a temperature determined by the amount of energy extracted by the gas. At higher pressures, more molecules hit the filament and extract more energy than at low temperatures. The filament temperatures induce thermocouple voltage changes.
